For many years, the focus of my office based practice was Family Counseling, including work with couples striving to improve their relationship. I listen with respect and compassion to each member of the couple, and assist each to hear the other in new ways. Homework is sometimes suggested, either individually or as a couple project.

Prof. Starr connected with me soon after joining ReGain. She asked simple yet engaging questions that made me really think about my situation and what I hoped to achieve. I have had one telephone session with her which allowed me to fill in the gaps to provide a more complete picture of my issues. She was attentive and asked probing questions. I feel fortunate to have connected with Prof. Starr and look forward to continuing to work with her.
I love the boundaries she has set up to keep our talks civil.
I reached out to Prof. Starr when my husband and I were going through an extremely rough patch in our marriage. She was so supportive, helpful, and quick to answer when I needed it most. I soon got my husband to join our online counseling, and Prof. Starr helped us both articulate what we were feeling. She showed us how to communicate better with each other, and with her guidance, we were both able to make compromises that strengthened our marriage. Prof. Starr gave us the very important reminder that my husband and I are a team, and that it's us together vs. the problem. I appreciate her wisdom and kindness more than I can put into words, and I know my husband and I will always cherish her advice!
Professor Starr has been quite helpful in allowing my wife and I to work through the difficulties in our failing marriage. I personally believe it is a counselors job to listen and not judge, which can be hard in a marital dispute as we are both trying to prove the other is wrong. But Prof. Starr has been very professional, understanding, and non-judgmental. She realizes there are many sides to one story. I may choose to continue to work with her after my wife and I separate.
