About me
I'm currently licensed for practice in Alabama and for those of you who may be considering contacting a mental health counselor here, I would welcome any input or questions you might have. After graduation with a MSW degree from the University of Alabama School of Social Work in 1973, I entered the practice field and for the next several years worked in a psychiatric in-patient facility providing counseling services for individuals experiencing chronic mental health issues. In 1977, I transitioned to a clinical social worker position with the Department of Veterans Affairs and was part of an inter-disciplinary team providing outpatient mental health assessment and treatment services to veterans and their family members. For the next 43 years I had the privilege and honor of providing both individual and group counseling services to thousands of veterans, both male and female, combat and non-combat related. I was able to gain a wide range of experience addressing a broad spectrum of issues including post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, depression, substance abuse, and other issues impacting the quality of life. Marriage relationships were oftentimes significantly affected and my having the option of working with both the husband and wife oftentimes provided the best avenue for moving forward. I'm very flexible in my treatment approach and strive to first of all, to establish a solid foundation of empathy and trust through a non-judgmental perspective. I utilize various therapeutic modalities, depending on what we feel is the best fit for you and your input will always guide the direction we take. My basic treatment philosophy has consistently reflected that the client is always the best judge of what's working for them. While no counselor can be a perfect fit for everyone, I would be more than happy to talk with you further and together we can explore available options in getting you headed in the best direction.

Reviews
These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Thomas Johnson. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with Regain might be different.
What time we have spent with Mr. Johnson as our counselor has been informing and we are working threw our difficulties with his help.
We enjoy our therapy sessions and feel like our therapist is supportive of both our needs to improve our relationship.
