About me
FOR COUPLES
Practice Profile: TERI NIELSEN, LMHC, LPC
A FORWARD-THINKING, EXPERIENCED THERAPIST
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the states of Washington and Utah and specialize in working with relationships. I have 35 years of clinical experience working in both in-patient and out-patient treatment facilities with adults, adolescents, children, and families.
I specialize in working with relationships, complex trauma (childhood trauma within families), PTSD, anxiety, stress disorders, addiction recovery, blended family issues, extended family issues, and spiritual crisis. I use John Gottman, Esther Perel, and Gabor Mate's work.
I lived and worked in Seattle for 28 years and in 2016 moved to southern Utah for the landscapes and the red rocks I love. I have a deep respect for personal struggles. I also have great confidence in the therapeutic process based on the transformations I've witnessed in the lives of the men, women, and young people with whom I've been privileged to work.
My clients are high-functioning, corporate professionals, first responders, healthcare professionals, therapists themselves, or people who have been in therapy but seek a more integrative approach. I also work with people new to therapy who seek to build a more solid foundation for their emotional health. The heart of what I do is create a safe space for clients to directly address the issues impacting their relationship and keeping them from moving forward in life.
My style is active and direct. I'm trained in trauma-informed and evidence-based approaches. I use an Internal Family Systems model with Rational Emotive and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapies. I integrate elements of Jon Kabat-Zinn's 'Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction' course when applicable as it’s extremely effective in working with anxiety as well as targeting the very roots of addictive behaviors.
As a therapist I draw not only on my education, but also on my life experiences as a woman, a daughter, a sister, a wife, and a mother. I am by nature interested in the world around me and continue to educate myself both formally and informally. In 1993, I began to practice Vipassana Meditation, a simple form of sitting/walking meditation. This continues to support me personally and has informed my work over the years.
Thoughts are powerful. They shape our lives, impact our health, and play an important role in shaping relational emotional intelligence. They impact the choices we make throughout our lives and help us respond with resiliency when life challenges us.
I advocate living life with compassion. Change is hard. Most of us resist change for fear of what's unknown in the future. I understand it takes courage to reach out for help. If you wish to work with me bring your grit and your honesty, but most importantly a strong commitment to yourselves. I'm here to help.

Reviews
These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Teri Nielsen. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with Regain might be different.
Teri is very easy to talk to, professional, and seems very committed to our personal journey. Her expertise in couples therapy is reassuring and I feel confident going forward with her as our therapist. Very happy we were matched with her
Teri is amazing not just for couples but also at seeing each individual and respecting their needs and goals. I could go on and on about how amazing she’s been and the positive results I’ve seen in myself and our marriage because of her expertise but to keep it short she is a therapist that can be trusted.
Teri is extremely thoughtful, driving us to take pause and investigate our sources of vulnerability and emotional charges. She delicately and artfully balances between us as a couple during our sessions and has allowed us to accomplish immense growth in our inter-personal communication.
Terri has been great! She is kind, thorough, and patient throughout the process and has been a wonderful third party for some very difficult relationship discussions.
Thank
Terri is wonderful! I have loved working with her!
I have only had one 1 on 1 and 1 couples session with Teri and she has been great. My wife and I got lucky finding a good therapist on the first go around.
Teri has a gift for empathy. She doesn't play a part; she really cares. This foundation of trust allows her to successfully implement her vast experience and knowledge of the healing art of therapy. I'm grateful she is a guide in my life.
If you need help, please do not look any further. Teri is a person you need to talk to. I've had counselling before with other counsellors, but nothing even close what Teri offers. She is absolutely honest and real. Teri cares about you succeeding in life. Teri cares about you. She is absolutely kind and professional. I wish I would have found her much earlier.
Teri does a wonderful job in tackling the issues at hand while giving sound advice. She is a wonderful person and really wants to get you know you and your partner. I would highly recommend Teri as a therapist!
I only just started therapy so I can’t speak to long term satisfaction but my initial meeting and communication with Teri Nielsen has been wonderful. She made me feel comfortable and heard. I look forward to progressing and working with her more.
Teri was great! She really took time to get to the root of our relationship and help us work through issues in a way that sets us up for success on our own. We would recommend her!
Terri is awesome and knowledgeable.
We are so happy that we got Teri. She is wonderful, and seems to “ get “ our family. I swear she is a healer of the soul.
Teri was great. My relationship didn’t stand a chance with this COVID crisis going on.
My husband and I enjoyed working with Teri. She is calm, thoughtful, experienced and, most importantly, non-judgmental. With her support and accountability we were able to successfully work through some issues and are feeling more connected. Thanks Teri!
