About Me

Hello, Welcome, and Thanks for contacting me!

It takes courage to reach out for support and embark on your quest of self-discovery, change, and healing, but I am glad you did.

My name is Steve Valente, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Colorado and Idaho. I have been a social worker for 27 years, and I have been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker for 14 years. I graduated in 2007 from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan with my Master’s Degree in Social Work and in 1994 from Michigan State University with my BS in Psychology.

I am experienced in working with adolescents, adults of all ages, and couples who are experiencing anxiety, depression, attachment concerns, trauma, and relationship issues. My career path has provided me with expertise in working with adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and the Children’s Foster Care system.

In me you will find a therapist who is accepting, non-judgmental, supportive, and respectful. If you are seeking assistance for relationship issues, it is a good sign that you are invested in the relationship and you want to learn new or better skills to be more aligned with your partner. I have used techniques such as expectation alignment, journaling, improving communication skills via Gottman’s Four Horsemen, and identifying attachment styles. I am here to serve as a guide and to assist you in defining and achieving the counseling goals that are most important and meaningful to you.

I will always be honest with you, and I will challenge you from time to time, but will do so in a kind, polite, and compassionate manner.

I take an eclectic approach to therapy and incorporate a variety of treatment modalities in order to provide individualized and customized treatment. I find the most success with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), Client-Centered Therapy, and Cognitive Restructuring, as these treatment methods are efficient and effective for discovering and identifying the root cause of irrational beliefs and negative thought patterns.

I am honored to be considered as an ally on your journey.

I look forward to meeting you soon!

Steve has been great! We appreciated that he is straightforward and honest without being too harsh. He quickly pinpointed issues in our relationship and provided tools for us to be able to work through things and resolve problems outside of sessions. He made it a point to keep us accountable and make sure we are putting in the work. Thanks Steve for all your help!
