About me

My name is Sherie Posie LPC. I am a fully Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Michigan. I have over 13 years of experience working in Mental Health, Psychology, Counseling and Human Services. Life can sometimes present us with challenges. They can range from employment and relationship issues to the loss of loved ones. There are times when having someone there to take that difficult journey with you is beneficial. I am here to do just that. I have experience working with teens, adolescents, adults, seniors, men, women, couples, and families. I specialize in mental health, grief, trauma, depression, panic and anxiety disorders, sexual abuse, domestic violence, issues affecting the LGBTQ community, homeless populations, and people of color. Couples counseling is unique in that it provides an opportunity to witness the connection between life partners. In couples counseling the counselor is a neutral entity there to support both parties in their search for balance.
In my practice compassion and empathy are an integral part of the therapeutic process. Through therapy, I assist and guide my clients to develop and maintain strong cognitive and emotional wellness; All while coaching them through obstacles of adversity. The clients are the experts about their lives. I firmly believe that individuals have the Power to create the change they want and need in their lives. My desire is to be an agent of change by providing access to healing. No two people are exactly alike therefore we all process things differently. I use a combination of theoretical approaches to help meet my client’s needs. They include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Person Centered, Solution Focused, Motivational Interviewing and Mindfulness Theory. Remember every day you wake up is a chance to start again. Let me accompany you on your journey to Rise like the Phoenix.

Although couples therapy with my spouse began only approximately 2 months ago, I am extremely impressed with the expertise/personality of Sherie Posey. She is very patient, empathetic, communicative, likeable, offers helpful suggestions, listens closely, is more unbiased than anyone I know, has tremendous integrity, and is highly qualified. If I didn't have her for a couples therapist, I'd want her for my own personal therapy.

Although she is kind and careful with her words (and can also be quite amusing when the occasion calls for it), she never hesitates to tell it like it is, which I greatly appreciate. Other therapists haven't been able/willing to do that with me, but I've found it to be quite helpful. Honesty is key even when it's ugly!

She told us from the start that she would "challenge" each of us when necessary, and she hasn't disappointed in that area. If I'm never confronted with my therapist's take on any given behavior I display that may be damaging or unhelpful to me (and/or my spouse), I'll likely never change. She is excellent at pointing things out that I may not have considered or may not necessarily want to hear, but she presents it in a way that helps me welcome her words and value her opinion(s) and, when warranted, her advice. This is not to say that she's not immensely supportive and caring as well; she is...very much so.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Sherie Posey to anyone unless they really aren't interested in hearing some unpleasant truths at times, in which case they probably shouldn't seek therapy in the first place! As you have probably already surmised, I think Sherie Posey is excellent at what she does, and I look forward to each appointment we have with her. In short, she is extremely well-versed in many areas of psychology and is, most importantly, willing and able to utilize her knowledge in very useful ways. Very highly recommended!!!
