About Me

Hello there! Life sometimes takes unexpected turns that lead us in places where answers could be obtained, and if this is where life led you this time I will be happy to help you in any way I can. Let me tell you a little bit about myself so that you can see how I could help you achieve the support that you might be looking for:

I have a Master's degree in Counseling Psychology from McNeese State University and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Louisiana. I have worked in the court system for years before I ventured into mental health, which gave me a broader perspective on the needs for mental health services for people with a variety of problems and needs. I have acquired great experience from working with SPMI clients and clients with numerous behavioral issues when I worked with the specialty courts in my district (Mental Health Court, Veterans Court, Drug Court, etc). After managing the Mental Health Court program for a year as a Program Manager I decided to work at the Methodist Children's home with adolescent trauma victims, which eventually led up to how I specialized in trauma and family counseling.

I am trained in a variety of counseling approaches, but one of my specialities derives from the fact that I am EMDR trained, which is a specific type of trauma counseling used to help people with unresolved trauma move on from the cognitive blocks that prevent them from having the life that they desire. I am also a certified MRT provider, which stands for Moral Recognition Therapy, and which is directed towards addressing substance abuse related issues, conduct disorders, and oppositional defiance disorders that may have affected an individual to the point of being involved in the criminal justice system. Motivational interviewing is also one of my strongest counseling approaches being that I am a member of the Crisis Intervention team in Calcasieu Parish as an instructor and trainer of law enforcement officers in the use of Motivational Interviewing when interacting with mentally ill defendants.

The way that I approach all of my clients is by exploring their needs and creating a plan of action based on the current issues that they want to work on. Through the use of some of the counseling approaches that I mentioned we can also venture into the root of the current problems to better understand the additional needs that the client may have in order to achieve resolution and/or closure. I am a firm believer in looking at the big picture of any problem that affects a client, and by using a systems approach I like to also help the client identify and recognize how valuable their existing support networks are in their recovery, no matter how extensive or reduced they may seem at first.

Hopefully that gives you an insight into my scope of practice, and if this sounds helpful and viable to you I am absolutely looking forward to working with you and to helping you in your journey towards recovery!
