About me

My name is Scott Van Camp and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who has been working with couples for over 15 years. During those 15 years, I have supported couples in navigating many life challenges and transitions. I choose to listen deeply to others, and partner with couples to identify and integrate their strengths toward accomplishing their goals. I believe that counseling relationships are collaborative, and are facilitated best through compassion, kind curiosity, and a deep fundamental belief in people as well as the sacred value inherent in intimate relationships.

As a counselor providing couples therapy, I utilize interventions from Cognitive Behavioral, Dialectical Behavior, Solution-Focused, Narrative, Extended Family Systems Therapy, and EMDR; while also utilizing training in mindfulness and Eastern practices, Motivational Interviewing, and Expressive Arts. In my experience, we can choose to: reject, tolerate, accept, or celebrate other people's stories. I choose to celebrate. Working as a couple's counselor is an honor, and an inspiring way to celebrate other people and join them on their journeys toward further meaning, understanding, and joy in their lives. Intimate relationships are a singularly unique opportunity to lean about ourselves, connect with others, and develop and sustain richness in our lives.

Scott is an excellent counselor. He's a great listener, relatable, and works to understand where each of you is coming from. With his help, my partner and my's communication improved immensely and conflict decreased dramatically in a short period of time. We went from regular irritation towards each other to very rarely arguing. Instead, we have mature discussions and are much more open about our needs and feelings. He helped us learn new tools that we use in our everyday life and relationship. I've done a lot of therapy whereas my partner had done none and is generally skeptical about therapy, but Scott proved a good fit for both of us and put us both at ease. We recommend him highly!!!

We thoroughly enjoy working with Scott. This is our first time working with a couples counselor and have found it very productive and effective in improving the health of our relationship. We highly recommend Scott. He makes therapy low pressure, low stress and actually quite enjoyable.
