Welcome!! I’m excited you are considering me as your therapist, but more importantly, congratulations on being brave enough to ask for help! In counseling the key to any working therapeutic relationship, especially via the internet, is understanding who you are speaking with on the other side of the screen. So, here's a little about me! My name is Samantha and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and National Certified Counselor. I’ve been a therapist for over 5 years and absolutely love what I do!! When I am not helping people such as yourself on ReGain, I see clients in a private practice setting and I also work with teens in a juvenile detention center. My experiences in counseling have led me to work with children, teens, adults, couples and families. I love working with people of all ages to help them to find their passion in life, remove road blacks that are keeping them from being their best self, and learn to live a life they have always dreamed.
Whether you are dating, married, divorce, or in a state of limbo in your relationship, I am here to help. Entering counseling as a couple can often feel overwhelming. I'm sure you are concerned that whomever you choose to work with will take your significant other's side in arguments, or you fear you won't be heard. Let me reassure you, I will hear you!! In my experience working with couples I have found that the key to successful couples counseling is finding a therapist who is able to not only hear you both as individuals, but also hear you as one single entity. I can assure you that when working with me I will take the time to speak with each of you individually, as well as, together throughout the process in order to ensure that everyone feels understood.
My focus in counseling is always on what is best for each individual client, or in this case, couple. As you will see below I utilize a variety of different modalities. Don't let that list deter you, if what we are doing in sessions isn't working, if my approach isn't meeting your needs (as an individual or as a couple), than I want to know about it so that I can make adjustments to fit your life, your needs. The therapeutic relationships is only effective if open and honest communication comes from both sides. I don't make promises during sessions except for one: I will always be straightforward and honest with you.
In counseling the modalities I most often use include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, stress management, mood management, anxiety reduction, and assertiveness training. My approach is generally solution-focused and strength-based, meaning that my overall goal is to empower you to explore all possible scenarios/solutions, discover what will empower you the best, and work towards accomplishing all of your goals.
