About me
My name is Bob McElwee, and I have been a clinical therapist for more than 25 years. I am a retired clergyman, and I currently work as a teacher and chaplain at a boys boarding school in Southeast Kansas. My wife and I have raised seven children, and we currently have 15 grandchildren. I have earned master’s degrees in literature, theology, and clinical psychology. Additionally, I also have an associate degree as a motorcycle repair and maintenance technician. In addition to riding and repairing Harley Davidson motorcycles, I enjoy gardening, carpentry, scuba diving, long distance bicycle riding, model trains, exercise, travel, and reading.
As a clergyman I have considerable experience in marriage preparation, couples counseling, divorce adjustment, and grief and bereavement therapy. As a clinical therapist most of my work has been with individual mood disorders (e.g. anxiety and depression). I am a Licensed Clinical Marriage and Family Therapist (LCMFT). As such I have worked mostly with people in stressed relationships that have produced individual disfunctions and flawed coping strategies.
My theoretical basis for most of my therapeutic interventions is most accurately described as “Cognitive-Behavioral.” Even so I take “Script Theory” seriously and find it a useful tool in helping people to re-conceptualize and organize their personality structure and characteristics. In this regard I am currently investigating “Narrative Therapy” and its theoretic techniques.
At base I am an optimistic person who believes that people have the ability to recover from past negative experiences if given proper tools, techniques, and encouragement. I enjoy assisting people as they create a productive, responsible, principled, and creative life that they can be proud of, and enjoy.

Reviews
These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Rev. Robert McElwee. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with Regain might be different.
Robert has been extremely professional and has provided very constructive guidance and support through my marriage issues. I appreciate his help immensely.
Robert is attentive and he is Ginuwine concern. I was afraid I could not connect with him because of my status but he truly has no barries when it comes to the human race. His schedule is flexible and thats a plus for me. If you are looking for a therapist do not pass him up!!
Bob is very easy to talk to! We have learned lots from him and enjoyed doing the work he has given us. His insight has been helpful for our marriage and we enjoy getting to talk to him weekly about our struggles and wins.
We waited for over half a hour and he never responded or showed up for the video session
He had the ability of saying things that made me change my thoughts and keep going. Major we strides were made in my marriage because of him.
very kind and personable, but pushes you to challenge yourself

Real pleasant guy. Upbeat easy to talk to. Never feeling judge. Leave the session happy with a smile
Robert has helped me and wife re-establish and regain our marriage. It is still a work in progress but the rest is up to us. He is to the point and very effective with listening, analyzing, suggesting, and providing tools/ exercises for us to work on in our time.
The hard times I was facing and will face in my life I now can strongly say I can handle with a very adult approach. non of which I could do before Mr. McElwee helped me with my walk in life. I would Recommend Mr. McElwee to anyone I find struggling in life.
Robert has been amazing. He genuinely cares and calls it as it is. I have been amazed at his ability to see through things and get to the source of the problem.
Robert is amazing.
Robert has a wealth of knowledge and experience with regards to couples. It took us a few tries to find him (4 meetings with 4 different counselors), but once we met him, his personality and approach immediately gave my partner and I the confidence and belief that we can overcome the obstacles we’ve been facing. Words really can’t describe his positive influence on our relationship and highly recommend him to any couple looking to bring their relationship to the next level.
