About me
I have a diverse personal and professional background which has enriched me and my approach to helping work. It began with incarcerated males in Kamiti Prison in Kenya, people navigating struggles with addiction and alcoholism in Surrey, BC, Canada; more recently, families with adults with developmental disabilities in Washington D.C. I have been licensed in Maryland for a little over two years. Since then, I have worked with couples, individuals and families with different needs such as overcoming the impact of trauma through healing and restoration.
My approach to couples work is warm, interactive and open. I strive to help premarital couples identify and address potential challenges and lay a solid foundation for their marriage. I work with couples to heal past and present wounds, move forward, discover new opportunities for connection and nurture mutual compassion and empathy. This begins with a consensus of the couple identifying the problem as the problem and not each other. I do this with the help of Prepare Enrich, Gottman and Emotion focused Couples therapy approaches. I also explore the role of culture and trauma in the barriers to harmony in relationships.
