My name is Dr. Karyn Larson Smith and I am a Clinical Psychologist and Professional Clinical Counselor licensed in Minnesota. I have been working in the field of psychology for over 25 years and have extensive experience with community mental health, residential treatment, correctional institutions and have provided services to a wide range of different ages and populations. In private practice I have helped couples with a variety of communication, conflict, trust and intimacy issues, and with systemic, generational, parenting and blended family concerns, as well as professional and academic counseling.
In my work with couples, I encourage identification and understanding of the needs and various perspectives of each participant, any lingering impact of their individual experiences, and the patterns within the relationship and any special issues that may hinder or interfere with the connection. I look at unique strengths and support behavioral strategies and tangible steps individuals can take toward strengthened communication and trust, reduced conflict, and intimacy. Depending on the identified issues, we work together toward a greater validation of each individual and of the relationship itself. Respect, sensitivity and supportive challenge help us help each other.

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Dr. Karyn Smith. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with Regain might be different.
She has been wonderful to work with listening to both of us and talking through things.
My husband and I are working with Dr Smith as we transition from the west coast to the east coast. We decided to join couples therapy in order to keep our marriage strong as we were living on two coasts. What a gift to have the strength and knowledge of Dr. Smith. Two more months and we will be on the same coast. Happier than ever.
Love my therapy sessions!
Dr. Smith is a great listener, knowledgeable, intuitive and kind. She keeps are sessions focused and productive and she meets us where we are at. I highly recommend her.
Dr. Smith is a great listener and professional in her counseling. Her advice is very helpful and directly addressed our needs. She has a wealth of experience but doesn’t push her opinions or advice on us, rather she’d help walk us through our situations to see the solution for ourselves.
Dr Smith is very pleasant. Our fist session was tough but we feel very positive that she will be able to get us back on track.
Within a few sessions I felt that Dr. Smith understood and respected my feelings
I found the exercises she recommended were very helpful
