About Me

Hello, and welcome!

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with a master’s degree in Clinical Counseling Psychology from Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. My experience includes working in a community outpatient setting, intensive-in-home therapy for children and families, emergency services and as a Military Family Life Counselor. My areas of focus in counseling are anxiety, depression, stress management, substance dependence, relationship issues, and life changes and transitions. As a former expat, I understand the difficulties of adjusting to a new country and the unique challenges this can bring. In order to support expats abroad, I am able to provide guidance in areas of cultural adaptation, isolation, trailing spouse and third culture identity. As a couples therapist, I integrate Gottman Method approaches, and am currently working toward certification as a Certified Gottman Therapist.

I believe that effective therapy embraces various approaches, depending on your individual style and presenting issue. While I am drawn to Cognitive-Behavioral and Solution Focused therapeutic approaches, my guiding philosophy embraces a humanistic perspective. I strive to offer a non-judgmental space within which to help you move forward toward resolution and change, embracing new perspectives and creativity. Our work together will be directed toward finding solutions that reflect your own personal needs and values.

Transformative and lasting change is possible when we take action and engage in therapeutic dialogue. I hope to be of assistance in this process and I look forward to working with you!

Karen is absolutely amazing. From the first session, my boyfriend and I immediately felt comfortable and at ease. She is constantly giving us tools to set us up for success in our relationship. We find ourselves utilizing the advice, and exercises Karen has given us in our sessions, almost every day. It has been life changing both of us. We both very much look forward to talking to her!

Karen is very knowledgeable and in a skillful manner steers the discussion in order to help as much as possible. She is very experienced, a good listener and I feel comfortable sharing with her even the most personal aspects of my life which I am struggling with. She is kind and pleasant and has created a safe environment to discuss and counsel. I strongly recommend Karen as a counselor.
