The desire for closeness and connection is a deep level core human need. Intimacy is the term to describe the levels of closeness we can achieve with effort and understanding. Intimacy can be seen as each partner's unique hands coming toward the other's hand. The goal is for both sets of fingers to clasp each other. Culture, education, faith, finances, politics, family, and recreation are only a start in a longer list of areas to learn and explore toward connection and intimacy.
