About me
Over an extensive career, I have received training (through a post-graduate Psychoanalytic Institute, as well as my graduate clinical training) and worked with individuals, couples, and families. My work with couples has spanned various constellations within these dyads, including but not limited to married and unmarried domestic partners; same sex and heterosexual couples, and individuals in open and polyamorous romantic relationships.
My goal in couples' work is to establish a specific and measurable safe zone, where the Couples' limits and boundaries may be explored. This exploration can also be helpful in identifying their latent and manifest wish for reconciliation, or parting ways, or possibly further define another and more organic solution customized by them during treatment. In this manner, the work serves to as a way of empower the couple to determine its future, enhancing their self-determination, as a romantic unit, where each person, is validated and taught to assert values and principles which can all be integrated towards a higher quality of life, with lesser pain, conflict and uncertainty.

My husband and I were having communication issues for years. By that I mean our conversations would start off normal, but then something little would trigger a big argument between the two of us. Since we started our weekly sessions with Jorge Abreu, which was roughly 6 months total (give or take), we've learned to better understand each other and keep calm when we have a disagreement. We are able to talk more, and argue far less, which is a big plus. Both my husband and I feel so much better in our marriage thanks to our sessions with Mr. Abreu. I was more than prepared to try one session and move on because previous therapists didn’t understand the nuance of our relationship in terms of race, class on top of “regular” marital issues. Jorge cut straight to the chase and got right to the core with two weeks worth of texting and the first session. Amazing how much further we, as a couple, got once Jorge explained how we each need to be heard to each other. Felt safe and open from the beginning. Very happy with the service. Jorge is wise and helpful in areas we hadn’t even realized we needed.

Jorge is unique in ways that surpass ordinary, everyday counsel. Jorge's availability reaches beyond weekly sessions and touches the spirit of one's inner self; awakening the mind and allowing one's floodgates to run freely (rather than harboring stagnant toxins). But note, Jorge's willingness to begin in the pool of toxins, not alongside the edge is what makes him unique. You've got to "really want" whatever it is that you seek from counseling, and Jorge will be there to see you through.
