About me
Thank you for connecting with me. It is great that you have taken this first step toward a counseling relationship. My name is John Douglass. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with the state of Alabama. I have been in practice for 20 years. I have worked with adolescents, young adults, families and couples at various stages and experiences in life. I have found that therapy can be most helpful when it is owned by the client.
I believe that the client is the center of the therapeutic relationship. That is why I am client directed in my approach to therapy. I can help clear out some stuff for you to see more clearly what it may be you want to work on. Emotions can cause us to behave in ways that we do not like. I help clients identify and articulate what these emotions may be and the behaviors they are exhibiting. This then can give the client the power to change.
I graduated from the University of Alabama with a Bachelor of Arts. I then graduated with a Master of Arts in Agency Counseling from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. I did a 2 year residency in Marriage and Family Therapy working with premarital couples, married couples, and families. My most recent training has been in the areas of Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma informed Care, and Training for Adoptions Competency.
I you are wanting to explore more about how we can work together to promote growth and change If would welcome that opportunity.

Highly recommend John to anyone, he’s knowledgeable, understanding, compassionate and a super good listener
Attentive and personable. Makes you feel welcomed and that he is listening to what you are saying. He also includes part of his personal experiences.
He is very understandable and helpful! Reply to our messages on time and provides an excellent support to us and our relationship.
Respectful, knowledgeable and supportive. Highly recommend!
Has been very helpful and supportive
Great therapist i recommend him.
My husband and I really enjoy John. He’s patient and kind and listens well. He gives great advice and practice exercises to be able to use in our daily lives.
John understands communication and knows how to get people to open up and work together. He is friendly and instructive without downplaying the importance of understanding in your own way. I am very glad my spouse and I found him as he has been such a help in our marriage.
John is very professional. He has been helping us through a tough time and we really apreciate him.
We've had only one session so far, but he goes out of his way to message and be personable... I'm impressed with him so far:)
John is patient and great at communicating. He will let me vent and gathers information to give the best feedback for me, not just a blanket set of advice.
