Whatever difficulty brought you here I believe I can help. My approach to counseling focuses on what you want your life and relationship to look like. Together we will explore the differences between the life you want and the life you have. I will encourage, support and listen to you as tell me about your struggles. I will trust and respect what you have to say without judgment. Together we will evaluate how your relationship can improve and you can better meet your needs. Whatever hurt is causing stress, anxiety, anger, or depression we will come up with behaviors that will be more fulfilling for you and your spouse. Before you start working with me though, I need you to answer a question. Are you willing to put your marriage/relationship before yourself? Relationships are difficult and when they get damaged they can be difficult to fix if the people are blaming one another. My approach will work to heal your relationship but the relationship must come first.
My approach is a form or Cognitive Behavioral therapy called "Reality Therapy". It focuses on what you as the client want and evaluating how to get it. Reality therapy places a high importance on relationships and the role they play in our overall happiness. In this case the relationship is with a significant other, but it can be another person, group of people, or a role/organization like a job. Past experiences are important in shaping who you are but what you do in the present and future is the focus for change. Most importantly, If you work with me I can teach you the knowledge and skills to improve your relationships overall happiness for the rest of your life.
