About Me

You have taken the first step to find help. It was very likely a difficult step, as admitting that we are stuck and our efforts have not gotten the results we wanted can be hard to face. I have been a therapist for over 20 years and have worked with a wide range of issues and diverse populations. I received my Bachelor of Social Work from Florida Atlantic University and my Master of Social Work from Barry University. Prior to becoming a therapist, my life was varied and unconventional. I worked for a while on a freighter in the Caribbean, drove a semi-truck/trailer, drove a tourist bus, worked in a sawmill, did a short stint on a commercial fishing boat, and had various other jobs. I then spent many years in a Buddhist monastery, devoting myself to mindfulness, meditation practice, the cultivation of compassion, and doing my best to help others. I have been together with my wife for 16 years and through all the ups and downs of marriage, when remain in love and very much committed to each other.

I have worked extensively with couples as they struggle to find the love and trust they have lost towards one another. Couples become critical of each other, defensive, and contemptuous. The vulnerable emotions they once shared have been replaced with knee-jerk reactivity. Yet they long to reconnect. I have worked with many couples facing this dilemma and helped them find a way to move on from their negative emotional cycles and appreciate the positive traits in their partner that brought them together in the first place. I will work with you to help you find more positive ways to communicate and together work through the painful issues that create a wall between you. I know how painful and agonizing it is to see a bond of love fray to the point of breaking. Another aspect of couple’s counseling I have extensive experience with is parenting issues. I have seen many couples that get along very well with each other and have a loving relationship, but are at great odds when it comes to how to parent their children, especially how to parent a teenager that is acting out. As close and loving as a couple may be, these differences can, over time, erode the bond between them and make them feel great concern about the welfare of their child. If you are experiencing any of these issues and feel I could be of help to you, I look forward to hearing from you and doing my best to help you realize your hopes.
