About Me

Hello,
My name is Elizabeth and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Virginia. I have two master degrees, one in Psychology and the other in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I have experience working with adults, adolescents, and children both in individual and group settings. I also have experience working with couples and families. Some clinical issues I have the most experience in include bipolar, depression, anxiety, mood disorder, trauma, loss and grief and substance abuse just to name a few.

A main focus in my treatment is establishing a therapeutic relationship with the individual first. I believe having a good connection helps facilitate effective counseling and provides the best outcomes. I treat the whole person, the mind, body and soul. In therapy, I am supportive, compassionate, and present with individuals both in times of struggle as well as times of achievement and progress. I make sure to meet each individual where they are at and listen and respect where they would like to see themselves in the future with the help of therapy.

My counseling style depends on the individual because one type of therapy does not fit all. I am a feminist and therefore empower my clients to do the best they can. Some of my therapeutic techniques include, cognitive-behavioral, and solution-focused. In addition, identifying one's strengths and coping skills that can be used to help work through various issues is an important part of my therapy approach.

I believe your mental health is just as important as your physical health and they both interact with each other. You have chosen to take a journey to improve your mental health and I will be with every step of the way. We are on this journey together.

One of my favorite quotes is by Helen Keller______" The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt with the heart."
