About me
Hi:
I am Dorrie or Dorothy, whichever you prefer. I have been a counselor for 28 years, with 24 years of experience working with Veterans and their families, and the last 4 years on BetterHelp. I received my Master of Social Work degree from the University of South Carolina.
I use positive psychology, the cognitive behavioral approach, emotional literacy, and intentional living to guide you through your issues. Positive psychology helps you to explore yourself through recognizing the positives in your life and accentuating them. The cognitive behavioral approach enables you to examine your decisions through understanding the connection between your thoughts, beliefs, physical reactions/responses, and behaviors. The emotional literacy approach examines how your emotions influence your decisions.
In couples counseling, I help each person make informed decisions about their relationship and expect equal participation from both individuals. A relationship requires both people to want it to work and to put in the effort to make it so. I believe that a relationship is based on love, honor, cherish, participation, communication, and quality time.
I call myself a resource counselor because I will provide you with a wealth of materials, including handouts, worksheets, articles, videos, and internet links, to review and hopefully apply to your life. I am a Christian and believe that the Bible expresses wisdom and encourages love. God made each of us unique, and "God saw that it was good." I am an LGBTQ+ counselor.
As an experienced therapist, I will tailor my approach to meet your specific needs. My goal is to help you enjoy life to the fullest.

Reviews
These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Dorothy Carskadon. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with Regain might be different.
Dorothy is knowledgeable and attentive to the needs of her clients. She is a great listener. I highly recommend her.
Dorothy has been great for my husband and I. She is calm, patient, and understanding.
Dorothy has been so immersed in our marriage in a very positive way. She challenges us in a healthy manner to repair and grow our marriage. She frequently checks in and is a guiding light to a healthier relationship. We appreciate her so much we can’t imagine anyone else. Thank you Dorothy!!!
I highly recommend Dorothy!
She is very patient and makes sure I feel heard. I love how she responsive she is and how she gives advice, articles, and video on my/our specific needs and doesn't try to put us in a one thing work for all mentality.
Thanks for all you do! You rock.
Very open and soft, but no nonsense. She listens to each individual and not only discusses the issue, but the root and the surrounding “crops” to help shape framework of thinking. She is a facilitator in every essence of the word. She lets you drive the bus of the conversation and doesn’t push her own agenda even if it may differ from her own.
My first time being therapy ever. It is a great experience to go through this with an understanding therapist.
I will update with a more proper review after we have had more sessions with Dorothy. So far we have both felt comfortable with her and how she approaches things. She has done a great job listening, and her background and history really impressed us and is one reason we decided to give her a shot. We do not regret anything and will update after a few more sessions!
Dorothy provides great tactics and tools to assist couples. She really works to understand the challenges while creating realistic expectations and following up.
Highly recommend
Dorothy is a great listener with a obvious wealth of experience. Her wisdom is quickly evident as she implements reflective listening to demonstrate she grasps your concern. At numerous moments during the session, she was able to identify a relevant tool/ resource to suggest to help provide context and guidance.
