I collaborate with individuals to help equip and empower them to overcome their personal and professional obstacles. I am strengths based, dynamic, transformational and flexible. Change is an inevitability in life. It is my goal to help you manage it . . . productively and positively. I am a licensed professional counselor in the state of Texas and have provided counseling services in home, in office, in residential treatment, and in schools.
As a former Director of Mental Health and Wellness with Communities In Schools (CIS), I worked with community partners to innovate and implement an integrated counseling model for at risk youth. Serving side by side with dedicated educators and community advocates, I began educating on vicarious trauma, emotional exhaustion, professional burnout, emotional labor and conscious discipline. I am a subject matter expert on trauma workers and have provided interviews with CBS, PBS, USA Today and World News. In 2018 I left CIS to co-found ReAm with a fellow doctoral student from Sam Houston State University. ReAm broadly focuses on trauma informed care, education development, and change management while keeping the individual and their needs at the center of the work.
Based out of Austin, I provide independent counseling to clients of all ages and backgrounds.
My experience enables me to offer effective outpatient, individualized, psychotherapeutic care. I treat a number of mental health concerns and create a neutral, nonjudgemental service for individuals, families, and couples. My focus is to help individuals heal, energize, and become aware of their inner strengths. I achieve this by operating in a neutral safe space, listening to your concerns, and customizing your treatment plan. Growth can be uncomfortable and I can’t make any promises about the final; outcome of our work together. I can, however, promise to be there for you every step of this journey. My goal is to help you grow from your struggles, heal from your pain, and move forward to where you want to be in your life.

David has been a very helpful resource for my partner and I. He is easy to talk to and adapts on the fly to whatever issue we bring to the session. I also appreciate that he gives us new activities and experiments to try that take us out of our usual scenarios and patterns and let us experiment and try out better ways of communicating and interacting. Both my partner and I always look forward to our sessions with David. And the results for us have been tangible--we use the strategies and things we learn from our sessions in our daily lives.
David Head is excellent! He got to know us and our needs, and addressed them in a thoughtful way. I appreciate his dedication.
David is very professional and a pleasure to work with.
