As a counselor my goal is to earn your trust and then help you clarify your thoughts and feelings that led for you into counseling. My focus will be on your hopes and dreams for your life. If your past is casting shadows on your present, then you and I can focus on ways you would like to put some of the past to rest in the past. As an older substance abuse counselor, my heart lies in the 12-step program. I believe it is a remarkable way to realign our thought-life; and thereby, change our feelings. I am eager to meet you and begin walking your journey with you.
In working with couples it is important to make sure that both individuals are willing to participate. I like to work initially with each individual first and clarify for each individual what they believe needs to be changed within themselves not in the other. And then I like to visit with the couple to see how their own individual goals for change are coming along. I believe that the couple communication can be improved by applying Gottman couple principles.
