"You can only be fully loved to the extent that you are fully known" ~ Dr. John Ortberg
I have long been a believer in this quote and I think it applies beautifully to couples' counseling. So often we hold parts of ourselves back from our significant other. Unexpressed needs, desires, and emotions can lead to distance, and sometimes even separation for a couple. My hope with working with you is to provide a safe space of re-connection for you and your significant other. We will work hard to process things that have been held back either due to busyness, hurt, infidelity, or mistrust. Together, we can take steps toward better communication, friendship, and intimacy.
I have 9 years of experience in the field of mental health counseling. I am licensed in the state of Delaware and have extensive experience working with couples and families, especially in regards to parenting difficulties such as acting out children, co-parenting disagreements and conflicts, and family divorce and transition.
My style of counseling is very centered around you, my client. You know you best! When you reach out to me, I can guarantee that you will feel heard and validated about your needs. From here, we can set goals together about how you would like things to be different in your life. I like using a lot of different techniques that have been proven to work, especially for depression and anxiety, including cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness. In addition to my training, I believe as a therapist that talking through some of your struggles you will gain fresh insight into your life, and see solutions on your own as well.
I am excited for you to begin this journey of hope, health, and deeper intimacy with your significant other. Regardless of who you choose to work with, I wish for you lots of success in rediscovering the love and joy in your relationship.

Initially, I was worried that my boyfriend would not actively engage in our sessions, especially if it got too technical or textbook for him but Carolyn did not do that. Talking to her is like just having a "regular" conversation which made both of us more comfortable about opening up.
Carolyn has been understanding and flexible and has helped keep our relationship from totally breaking apart.
Carolyn has been absolutely fantastic. I’ve gone to therapy for several years before in my life and I definitely love the way Carolyn communicates and listens. We’ve only been seeing her for a few weeks and already seeing results. Highly recommend her!
Talking to Carolyn feels like being wrapped in a warm hug. I felt completely better after one session and it changed how I felt about my relationship in a great way.
