About me
Hello! Thank you for your interest in allowing me to assist you! I am grateful for this opportunity to be of service. I was licensed to practice as an LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor) in April, 2017 for the state of Oklahoma, and have been practicing for 6 years with a community mental health agency in Tulsa, Oklahoma. However, in late March, 2021, I decided to take a break from community mental health work and began working full time with BetterHelp.
The majority of my clients have been children who are in the foster care system. But, child clients were also seen in schools, in their homes, and other places in the community. I have had adults on my case load who require assistance in managing mental health difficulties, so my client base has been varied. My experience is mostly in the areas of trauma, PTSD, complex PTSD, anxiety, depression, ADHD, ODD, Autism, grief, loss, abuse and neglect.
While familiar with most all therapy modalities, my preferred ones are:
* Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
* Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)
* Play Therapy modalities, including but not limited to Theraplay techniques, Play Therapy techniques, Sand Tray techniques, Art Therapy and Music Therapy
* Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
* Trauma based therapies, ie., TFCBT, Theraplay, Play Therapy, Sand Tray, Art, Music, etc.
** I am in the process of obtaining my Registered Play Therapist and Infant Mental Health certifications and endorsement for both modalities.
My sessions usually begin from an attachment based theory. Many of my clients experience difficulty in different aspects of their life due to disrupted attachments in early childhood., so helping them to understand that attachment is at the root of many of the difficulties they are facing, often brings the relief they seek.
In sessions with couples, my focus, first and foremost, is on making sure each person is heard and has an opportunity to express themselves in a safe situation. Usually, in that setting, couple are able to recognize themselves in different situations, responses, etc., where they need to make a change or set a boundary, without trying to change the other person. The therapist is present to assist in guiding the couple to the decision or action that works best for them, not to dictate how their marriage/relationship should look.
Thank you again for considering me as your therapist, and I look forward to working with you and your spouse/partner to resolve issues in restoring and/or strengthening your relationship.

Reviews
These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Terri "Renee" Goughler. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with Regain might be different.
She truly allows you speak and listens to what you have to say!!!
Renee is amazing. She's really helped us, even in the few sessions we've had. The way she poses questions and really examines us individually and together has been pivitol in our growth together.
Great listener, compassionate, and attentive!!!
Very supportive. Helps find the best schedule each week for us!
