Shawnna Punteney


About Me

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Nationally Certified Counselor with 19 years of experience. I provide individual, couples, and marriage and family therapy. I work with a wide range of issues ranging from anxiety, depression, anger management, grief, transitions, DSM disorders and beyond. I use a Solution Focused approach in counseling; this is based in cognitive-behavioral ideology. I also use Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). This means that I will share any idea, theory, model, philosophy or life experience that will support the client's growth and development in counseling. I mix counseling and education to help clients understand what may be going on in their lives and let them decide what they want to do about it.

My counseling style is warm, interactive, and direct. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion. I will tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs. I also encourage educational tools for clients to learn about and understand the issues they may be struggling with.

When I work with couples I view the couple as the client and find that it is imperative not to take sides. Typically miscommunication is at the core of a couples struggle. I work with the couple to identify the true complexities of the struggle within the relationship. As a team, we will use a variety of therapeutic techniques to strive toward resolution.
