About me
Welcome!!
My name is Shannon LaTray, and I am a licensed clinical counseling professional in Montana, Utah, Maine, the District of Columbia, Oregon, New Jersey, and Massachusetts. I have experience working therapeutically with youth, teens, adults, and families regarding mental health and addiction issues. My approach to therapy is holistic and patient-centered, focusing on treating the whole person rather than just specific symptoms. I believe in addressing the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual aspects of a person's life to promote overall well-being. I also prioritize the individual needs and preferences of each patient, tailoring the therapy experience to their unique circumstances and goals. This dynamic approach allows for a more personalized and effective therapeutic experience. Additionally, I am a certified Gracious Space Trainer.
My Approach...
In my work, I commonly use a combination of several theoretical approaches, including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, and humanistic therapy. I find that integrating elements from these different approaches allows me to address a wide range of client needs and preferences. CBT helps to identify and change negative thought patterns and behaviors. Psychodynamic therapy explores unconscious processes and past experiences, and humanistic therapy emphasizes empathy, authenticity, and the client's subjective experience. By drawing from these different theoretical approaches, I strive to provide comprehensive and effective therapy tailored to each individual.
My Focus...
I typically work with a diverse range of clients, including individuals dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues, life transitions, and self-esteem concerns. I have a strong background in helping clients navigate divorce and relationship challenges, career changes, and significant life adjustments individually and as couples. Overall, I am committed to supporting and guiding clients facing various challenges.
My Communication Style...
I strive to create a warm, empathetic, and nonjudgmental environment for my clients. I want my clients to feel safe, supported, and heard during our sessions. I aim to foster an atmosphere of trust and openness where clients feel comfortable expressing their thoughts and emotions. Working with me, clients often describe feeling understood, validated, and empowered to work through their challenges. I seek to provide a sense of calm and reassurance while also encouraging growth and self-discovery. In addition, I challenge clients to consider alternative perspectives and mindsets and to actively participate in finding solutions to their identified concerns. I believe in empowering clients to explore different ways of thinking and to take an active role in their own journey toward resolution and personal growth. By fostering a collaborative approach, I aim to help clients develop a deeper understanding of themselves and their situations while working towards positive outcomes.
My journey to Mental Healthcare...
My counseling journey has been incredibly rewarding and fulfilling. I have had the privilege of working with diverse clients, each with their own unique experiences and challenges. Reflecting on my 20-year journey in mental healthcare, including over 8.5 years as a licensed professional, I value the diverse experiences I have gained.
From implementing a mental health intake program in a men’s state prison to promoting a patient-centered care model at the Montana State Hospital, I have learned the significance of effective systems and teamwork. At a residential treatment facility for substance abuse, I developed a program that encouraged shared experiences and empowerment among participants and a team centered approach to support staff.
I have supported clients aged 2 to 82, focusing on building meaningful connections through individual sessions, couples counseling, and group therapy. I focus on building deep, meaningful connections that uplift and empower individuals as they navigate their paths toward healing and wellness. I am excited about the opportunities ahead to continue fostering growth and resilience in those I serve.
My goals for you...
When approaching goal setting with my clients, I believe in taking a collaborative and client-centered approach. I work with my clients to identify their individual needs, values, and aspirations. Together, we establish realistic, measurable, and meaningful goals that align with their personal growth and well-being. I encourage clients to participate actively in the goal-setting process, ensuring that their aspirations and desires are at the forefront. Additionally, I support clients in breaking down larger goals into manageable steps, providing them with the tools and guidance needed to track their progress and celebrate their achievements along the way.
My first session with you...
During the first session, clients can expect a welcoming and supportive atmosphere where they are encouraged to share their concerns, experiences, and goals. I aim to establish a strong rapport with clients, actively listen to their stories, and gain a thorough understanding of their unique perspectives and needs. Additionally, I provide an overview of the counseling process, discuss confidentiality and the client-counselor relationship, and answer any questions or concerns the client may have. Together, we begin the process of exploring their challenges, identifying goals, and laying the foundation for our work together. Overall, clients can expect a compassionate and collaborative approach as we embark on their journey towards growth and healing.

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Shannon LaTray. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with Regain might be different.
She's great!
Shannon is a professional; compassionate and willing to challenge assumptions with a variety of tools to help get to the root of the problems at hand.
Working with Shannon for about 2 years now has really made a huge difference in my life. She’s helped me get through and continue to work through some very difficult things but also challenges me to look at things differently and has provided a lot of helpful information and tools to further educate myself in the areas I’m focusing on.
Working with Shannon has been one of the best things for us a couple - she taught us how to communicate better, so that we can focus on working towards our future goals together (as a team ☺️). She's been so easy to talk to and extremely knowledgeable and understanding. We would absolutely recommend her to anyone who is open to it!
She's great we like working with Shannon
Shannon, an excellent therapist, possesses a compassionate and articulate approach. She guided both my partner and me through difficult moments, providing a unique ability to truly understand and acknowledge both of us. Thanks to Shannon, we've gained a deeper appreciation for each other's perspectives and grown closer and more compassionate in our relationship. I highly recommend her!
I greatly appreciate Shannon's individual and open minded approach to helping couples find the root of their issues. She has been very attentive and is clearly knowledgeable about the practices she is teaching. She is compassionate and helps ensure both partners feel heard, seen, and respected.
Shannon is a pro, and It’s truly impressive to observe her proficiency in handling difficult situations. We both come away from these conversations feeling inspired to be our best, and though it’s difficult to go through this process, I’m glad to have Shannon be the mediator.
Shannon has been a wonder. After a terrible first attempt at couples therapy, we stumbled onto Shannon. Not only did she change the very dynamic of our relationship but has help us fall back in love with each other. She has been a boon to us and has listened and provided us with insight to help us grow. Shannon is amazing!
She is great
Shannon is the best. She’s action and solution oriented, rather than marinating in the past. I’ve had prior therapists that just listened, listened, listened, which is nice, but doesn’t help me change or be better. Shannon actually helps you to figure out how to change going forward.
My partner and I have only been with Shannon for a short while, but her understanding and desire to help couples heal and grow are her most resonant characteristics. She takes the time to truly understand a couple's mindset and trajectory, aiding in developing healthy and sound communication and goals. I'm very thankful for her understanding and her ability to challenge me (and my partner) in each and every session we attend. I would highly recommend Shannon for those who want to make real change in their relationship through a growth mindset and a "gracious space" model that promotes healthy boundaries, curiosity and unconditional support for each partner.
Easy to relate to, compassionate, current on continuing therapy practices. Great communication. Shannon has been wonderful to work with!
We are so grateful for the expertise Shannon has and her patience with us. She knows when to insert herself respectfully and guide us on what she notices we’re struggling with. Similarly, she is excited to celebrate our wins with us and it makes us really feel safe and validated in the work she’s helping us do. We’re not fully where we want to be, but we’re so glad Shannon on this journey of healing with us.
We've only been working with Shannon a short time, but she has been very engaging and supportive of both me and my husband. We are feeling confident that we will be successful with our therapy work.
Shannon LaTeay saved my marriage, she is the best!
Shannon is very easy to speak to and provides a variety of options for us to work through on each session. I feel comfortable sharing difficult subjects with her and leave each session feeling optimistic and relieved
Shannon is a wonderful therapist- kind, understanding, insightful and above all, helpful. I am so grateful I had the chance to work with her & look forward to continuing to.
Shannon has been helpful during my time of grieving. I didn't know how I was going to recover from my relationship but I knew I needed help to deal with my emotions. Shannon provided me material to watch and it changed my way of thinking. Helped me realize that what I was going through is ok. I have grown and reframed some of my beliefs for the better because of Shannon's help. I am very grateful and appreciative of her amazing insights and tips, but most importantly I'm grateful for her caring about my health and well being.
Shannon has been great and truly so helpful in the entire process of my boyfriend and I understanding each other and honestly falling in love again. She gave us great advice week to week and I truly looked forward to speaking with her and hearing what helpful insight she had on our situation.
