About Me

If you have made it this far into your therapeutic journey, I congratulate you. It takes courage to acknowledge that you may need a little help in life. Therapy is not a job for me; it is a passion! It is both a joy and a privilege to accompany my clients on their personal journeys toward a healthier, happier life.

Because I understand that we are living in a constantly busy world, I envision therapy as a time for my clients to regroup, reflect, and tackle their issues in a safe, calm, and non-judgmental environment. It is vital to find a therapist that you feel comfortable with, that you believe understands you, and most importantly that you can trust. My clients find that I am an empathetic listener with a warm and direct approach. I am not only focused on your long-term goals for therapy, but what you need at the moment. I practice from a Systems based collaborative stance, but often will draw on numerous different therapeutic theories to provide people with what they need in the room. Both my MA and PhD are in Marriage and Family Therapy, and I have had extensive training in formal Systems theory, as well as trainings in Internal Family Systems and Gottman.

Many people struggle with the fear that they will be "ganged-up on" in the therapy room - which is understandable! There are a lot of voices and emotions when you and your partner enter into therapy. Thankfully, I have had 12 years to practice allowing each partner to feel heard and respected while providing the space and tools for you to practice better communication skills.

Reviews

Written by A.L. on Sep 11, 2020 after counseling with Sarah for 2 weeks on issues concerning relationship

Dr.Dunlap has listen to all our concerns and doesn’t judge where we are at in our relationship. I also appreciate the fact that she isn’t a therapist that says “a women job is at home” she understand many women have jobs outside the home.
