Hello and thank you for visiting my profile. I am a New Jersey Licensed Professional Counselor with 18 years of experience. Generally I find that when couples come to therapy they have been dealing with certain problems for many years. Sometimes they are on the brink of divorce and other times just sad and frustrated over the lack of connection and intimacy they feel with their partner. In addition today's health crises has left most of us grappling with a changed present and uncertain future, in itself causing fear, frustration and isolation. For some this situation is causing pre-existing problems to intensify.
I strive to help couples improve their relationships by improving communication, increasing understanding of each other and making concrete behavioral changes as needed. As I learn about a couples communication I point out maladaptive patterns which promote distance rather than connection. Often enhanced communication can make the relationship feel more rewarding and lead to positive behavioral changes that are needed to reset the relationship.
Additionally, I may explore issues from each partners family of origin that may be affecting the relationship in ways each partner is unaware of. In some instances it can be helpful to discuss what each partner can live with and what they can't. While not every relationship can be saved I believe therapy is worth trying and that each person can learn something valuable in the process. I am glad you reached out and I hope to meet you!
