Welcome to Teen Counseling! I am Dr. Roxanna Duntley-Matos. I am a community-engaged cultural anthropologist and a Licensed Social Worker in clinical and community organizing practice with over 20 years experience. I collaborate with couples and their families from diverse cultures to strengthen their communication, academic, and interpersonal relationships. I collaborate with English and Spanish-speaking youth to discover their strengths and better address a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, relationship issues, challenges with their parents and school, trauma, grief, and cultural adaptation. I am a former MI Governor appointed Board member of the Children's Trust Fund for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect, former President of Organization of Latino Social Workers-MI and I am currently co-developing a culturally-focused trauma-informed/Empowerment program with the public schools, communities, and families.
My counseling style is warm, engaging, and energizing. I use a cultural humility, empowerment, and transformative complicity approaches that involve respect, sensitivity, and compassion toward the self and others. I am informed by the latest cutting edge research on neuroplasticity, neurodiversity, cultural inclusion, and equity. I don't believe in stigmatizing labels and I respect an intersectional identity and standpoint theory perspective. My approach combines positive psychological, critical feminist, social justice, cognitive-behavioral, humanistic, psycho-dynamic, and rational-emotive counseling. I hope to meet you to support your emotional well-being and spiritual goals. I am honored to walk with you on your journey!
