Paul Courtland Soper

(LCSW-S, LISW-S, CCTP)

About Me

Hi! My name is Paul and I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the state of Texas, and a Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW) in the state of Ohio. I've been practicing for about 10 years in a variety of settings, including community mental health, psychiatric hospitals and private practice. I offer psychotherapy sessions to couples interested in embarking on a journey of emotional healing. Negative thought and behavior patterns build up over time, and it takes time to retrain your brain and body to engage differently with the world around you. A holistic approach focusing on the mind, body and spirit is essential to recovery, and I try to teach my clients and their chosen families how to empower themselves to improve overall wellness. Everyone’s journey is unique, so I provide a trauma-informed, eclectic and individualized approach to healing. My eclectic approach pulls from CBT, DBT, Solution-Focused, Humanistic, Reality Therapy, Narrative Therapy and Positive Psychology. My eclectic approach with couples pulls from Gottman and Imago methods.

In addition to being a sex therapist, I recently became certified as a clinical trauma professional (CCTP), and am working toward a certification through the Integrative Sex Therapy Institute (ISTI) as a Sex and Couples Therapist (CSCT). I have experience working with non-monogamous couples with various levels of open-ness, and I specialize in treating individuals and couples in the LGBTQ+ community.

I believe that consent, respect and open communication are essential in creating a sex-positive space in your relationship(s), and provide a safe space for you to explore this through talk therapy. I also specialize in treating couples in the LGBTQ+ community with specific issues relating to that population, providing a safe space for members of this community to process their experiences and identify and work on their goals for the future.

I look forward to working with you!

Paul is easy to talk to and be honest with. He leaves space for a couple to communicate authentically, he asks meaningful questions and provides feedback equitably through observations of each session. With tools we have learned from working with Paul trust is being rebuilt . I am confident in the path we are on now, many thanks to Paul!

Paul Courtland Soper has been very accommodating to our schedules and has done an incredible job of helping to defuse tension in our relationship. We have been working with Paul for seven months and use tools he has given us to grow closer with one another. He has done an excellent job of tracking our progress and keeping up with the ins and outs of our relationship. We were hesitant to use a counselor and especially one online. His services have shown us that he can be very effective and relatable even with just a digital relationship. Thank you for your patience and your support.

Always checks in and we are surprised and thankful at how much he always remembers about all the things we have said over the sessions!
