About Me

Hello and welcome. No matter what brought you here today, there is hope. Whether you are facing relationships challenges alone or relationship challenges stressed by other circumstances such as parenting, stress, health, grief, addictions, major life changes or anything else, reaching out for help is often the hardest obstacle to overcome. I want to commend you for taking that first step. Whether you consider your struggles minor or overwhelming and serious, working collaboratively with a therapist can be a remarkable catalyst towards change.

You have a choice when selecting a therapist, and it will be important to choose someone who you feel is a good fit for you. I’d like to introduce myself so that you know a little about me. My name is Nichole Gavel. I’ve been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in California since 2002. I’ve worked with people from all different walks of life, experiencing a wide range of challenges. I specialize in trauma, relationships, parenting, adoption, education and career counseling, depression, anxiety, compassion fatigue, finding your purpose, and grief and loss. With couples, I often use the foundation and tools of Non-Violent Communication as a tool to develop a deeper consciousness that can elevate your communication and improve understanding, empathy and intimacy.

I believe in the human capacity for change. While life can present incredible difficulties, we also have incredible opportunities to adapt and find joy and meaning in our lives and relationships no matter our circumstances. My approach blends a variety of therapeutic methods including person-centered, narrative, mindfulness based cognitive therapy, and solution-focused. I adjust my style depending on your needs and preferences. I know sharing your thoughts and feelings can be difficult, especially in the context of an intimate relationship. I want both of you to feel seen and heard. My goal is to create a non-judgmental, safe space for you to work at your own pace, as a couple, on the issues that are important to you.

In therapy, our initial interactions are focused on assessment, getting to know each other, and giving you the opportunity to see if I’m a good fit for you. We start wherever you are and work together to envision the changes you would like to see. I’ll help you bring awareness to your situation. Together we can explore possibilities and solutions. We’ll create a plan, including incremental steps, that will help you achieve your therapeutic goals.

So far Nichole has been so responsive and so supportive. I only needed 1 video call to feel connected to her.
