Salutations! My name is Nicholas Denson, but feel free to call me Nick. I am so pleased that you and your partner are reaching out, I recognize that it isn’t always easy to do so. Therapy is a process and starts well before you start talking to a therapist. One of the fist steps is deciding what therapist and style work best for you both to build a therapeutic alliance that will help you reach your goals.
I am a professional counselor in the District of Columbia and Nevada as well as an art therapist. My experience runs al little over 6 years and includes work with adults, including couples, and families individually and in groups. I have worked in settings such as partial hospitalization programs, military bases, and support groups to name a few. The clients that I have seen include those who struggle with mental illness, sexuality, addiction, relationship issues, trauma, cancer recovery and stress related to living abroad.
Experience has taught me that therapy is not a one size fits all especially when it comes to couples. I believe that the best kind of therapy meets you where you are at and that is what I seek to provide my clients. My counseling style is creative, eclectic, warm, and client-centered. My strength is working with people find creative ways to build their capacity and work through the healing process.
I am looking forward to working with you! Please let me know how I can best support you!

Nicholas has been great at opening the door of communication between my partner and I. He’s able to navigate hard conversations and is mindful to check in with how the process is affecting both parties of the relationship.
Nick faced everything we threw at him with such confidence, respect, and creativity. He helped us through many complex challenges that we were skeptical about could truly navigate. Because of him, we feel equipped with numerous tools and approaches for the road ahead.
