Congratulations on making the decision to enter into couples counseling! It's a hard decision to make, and too many couples wait until it's too late. I'm here to help you find your way back to each other.
I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has been in the field for over 10 years. I obtained my Masters of Social Work from the University of Maryland School of Social Work in 2005. I've worked primarily in a variety of outpatient clinics as a provider, which included couples and family work, as well as co-parenting. I have worked with couples who are struggling with trust issues, infidelity, trauma, depression, anxiety, significant life changes, loneliness, a perceived lack of direction or purpose, grief, and anger. My first internship was at a clinic that primarily served the LGBT community. Most recently, I worked in a clinic that worked with military members and their families who were impacted by or at risk for domestic violence.
Like many social workers, I have training in a broad range of techniques, but I primarily use Motivational Interviewing, Solution Focused Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I also have some training in the Gottman Method. When I meet with a new couple, one of the first things I want to know is if you have been to therapy before, and if so, what did and didn't work for you. I will also want to hear what's going on that you're concerned about, and how you would like things to be different. I will work with you to identify the method most likely to benefit you, and work from there.
One of the other things I will want to know about is how you feel your culture impacts you and your health care. In addition to several places in the United States, I have lived in England, Turkey and Germany. Through my travels, I have been to over 40 different countries and territories across four continents, which has greatly increased my understanding of various cultures and my passion for culturally competent care.
Currently I am available primarily through messages, which I will check daily. I will have some availability for phone or video calls in the evenings and on weekends. Please remember that my schedule may not accurately reflect all available sessions, so please message me if you need something other than what's available.
