About Me

My 38 years of experience working with families and children/adolescents as a School Social Worker and School Psychologist, adjunct professor and private therapist has afforded much knowledge and understanding of the challenges of couples supporting the needs of a family today. Using a humanistic approach of positive regard for individuals within a relationship, I have found that at the heart of most conflict with couples is lack of communication. When couples decide to enter therapy, they have a shared responsibility to not make their situation worse and maintain a mutual desire for improvement. As an experienced therapist, I believe listening in a non-judgmental and understanding way is of utmost importance. In couples therapy, I provide a non-threatening and respectful environment that fosters healthy communication skills. I believe you need to be able to talk and act so one feels safe and comfortable expressing concerns, feelings, needs and desires. Couples often find themselves involved in win-lose tug-of-war situations where they get "stuck" and build up walls. Attempts to defeat your partner is just self-defeating. Communicating openly and truthfully will help build trust and intimacy and clarify important interpersonal boundaries and needs. I seek to support mutually satisfying resolutions to conflicts, find ways for couples to accept change for win-win solutions through compromise and honest agreement. I want to help you learn to adopt a mindful stance towards your partner, use effective communication to express yourself without losing control of your emotions, and work towards mutual goals. It will lead to a better life for everyone involved.
