About me

I am an older male. I've had a lot of diverse life experience that gives me a helpful perspective on many different styles of marriage and family. I've been married to the same woman for 50 years, and have five children and 7 grandchildren. I ran a home repairs business for 20 years. I became a therapist later in life because of my interest in reducing impulsive and reactive behavior. I worked on a secure Military Base with a civilian and military population as Family Advocacy Program Manager where I taught relationship enhancement for the couples in high-stress military settings. I worked with blended families, cross-cultural and inter-racial relationships. I worked with domestic violence offenders and survivors, especially those who wanted to remain in a relationship but who wanted the violence to stop.

As a Marriage and Family therapist, I have worked with couples and families using structural and narrative therapy and Gottman techniques to find balance and greater harmony.

I have a BS from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. Later in life I graduated with an MS in Family and Human Development from Utah State University in Logan, Utah. In 2004 I graduated with a Post-Master's Certificate in Marriage and Family Therapy from Saint Mary's University in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In the 1980's as I did volunteer work for the Women and Children in Crisis Center in Provo Utah, I developed a theory I called, "Displaced Power." I use that theory to help couples and each individual in the family who feels powerless (which includes almost anyone who comes to therapy for almost any reason) regain or gain a sense of control over their own lives. I've been very successful with it.
