About me

I have practiced therapy with couples and families in a variety of settings including substance abuse and addiction, outpatient mental health, medical clinics, social service agencies, and private practice. I especially enjoy getting to know the relationship style couples use. For example, it is common for relationships to evolve over time and one party or the other to be challenged in ways their partner isn't. When this is happening, partners avoid each other sometimes. They "dance" with each other as they face the prospects of changes in themselves and in each other.

I've noticed some people "pull back" from the other. Some partners "approach" the other. Even others learn they both withdraw from each other. Any one of these patterns can create anxiety, lead to self-criticism, or increase conflict in the relationship. My role as a therapist is to be present in a way that provides each partner to find their footing so the two of them feel they are resting on a solid foundation.

Next, I provide equal time to each person so each is "heard" and we can together, find a way forward through the barrier(s) to a satisfying relationship. I have found this may occur quickly and sometimes over a longer period of time (meaning several sessions). My aim is to provide support for problem-solving, skill-building, and to teach couples how to adapt to what they are learning about themselves, each other, and their relationship.

I provide training in the skills that will allow you to change your life in important ways. For example, my focus is on reducing emotional suffering, ending painful habits, and increasing the ability to live a life of abundance.

My goal is to help you:
Reduce the intensity of depression or anxiety in your life,
Increase the length of time between bouts of panic, fear, or excessive worry,
Reduce the frequency of your hopelessness or helplessness,
Increase your ease in communication with significant others,
Build your resilience to the challenges of living, and
Reduce your overall emotional pain and suffering.

I look forward to working with you.

Kirt is an amazing therapist. I’m little to no time he was able to make us feel comfortable and navigate our needs. He helped us to find new ways in our struggles and always brought in humour and inspiration. I would highly recommend working with kirt!

I really like Dr. Kirt's mix of specialties and wisdoms, it's broader and more holistic than I've had access to in a therapist. He's generous and asks questions that have cut into areas I didn't expect to go. I think about the new tools / ideas we discuss long afterwards. I feel at ease speaking with him and would recommend! Thanks!
