About me

I am a licensed clinical mental health counselor with board certification in the state of North Carolina, where I have practiced eight years, collaborating with individuals and their loved ones to improve communication, relationships, and overall quality of life. I received my master of science in Rehabilitation Counseling and Psychology from the University of North Carolina. I am involved in research on holistic healthcare and have co-authored articles exploring therapy treatments for individuals diagnosed with cancer and depression. I am also a certified BodyFlow (yoga/tai chi/pilates) instructor and am interested in helping you develop healthy habits, both physically and mentally.

I take a humanistic approach in the therapeutic alliance, as I believe all individuals--with the right environment and supports--are capable of actualizing their goals and progressing toward a meaningful, connected life. My aim is to empower you and provide you with tools for building the confidence and motivation necessary to achieve goals that are congruent with your wants and values, both as an individual and as a system/unit. Through the use of cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and motivational interviewing, we will work together to recognize and target life stressors that may be contributing to disruptive feelings, including anxiety, depression, isolation, amotivation, inability to focus, etc.

The first steps toward change can be the hardest part of the process. I look forward to working with you as we explore your story and discover your strengths, creating a present that reflects your truest, most connected self.

Reviews

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Kelly Nelson. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with Regain might be different.

Written on Apr 02, 2021 after therapy with Kelly for 4 weeks on issues concerning relationship

Kelly is a great listener and translator. She hears what I have to say but also uses her vast knowledge of the psyche to help me better understand the underlining anxieties I often face. She has empowered me to not only be happy with who I am but also to be proud and open about myself with other people. She has helped me and my future spouse learn to communicate when it felt impossible. We are learning together and I could not have asked for a better support system.

Easy to talk to and very good at helping individuals achieve their goals and focus in on the areas they need to adjust themselves so that they may better function in their relationship. Kelly was able to equip my wife and I with tools that allowed us to communicate with each other in emotional situations in a way that addressed the problem through understanding, instead of the situation spiraling into an argument.
