I am a master's level licensed mental health counselor who has been providing mental health services for 29 years. I studied childhood development to become a children's mental health therapist. Then I discovered that if I was going to help a child I had to learn to work with the families. From there I discovered that it take a strong and healthy relationship for couples to provide a healthy setting in which to raise children. And that is how I got into couples counseling, which I have specialized in over the past 17 years. In counseling couples I believe in looking below the surface of the problems for the underlying dynamics that result in ongoing conflict or poor communication. Understanding the patterns of communication can help individuals break destructive communication habits and gain a deeper understanding of each other.
If asked, people in a good relationship will state many reasons for their happiness, their job or family. But in an unhappy relationship, nothing outside can compensate for the unhappiness in the primary relationship. If you are ready to address the issues underlying your unhappiness I am willing to begin the journey with you. I know it will be hard work and even painful at times, but know it is worth it to have a true partnership with someone you love and respect.
