My name is Kathi Turner. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Texas and certified by the Academy of Certified Social Workers (ACSW). I have been a counselor for over 40 years, in private practice for the last 15 years, and a Certified Mentor Coach (2009) with a focus on life transitions.
All 40 years of my counseling career have involved very diverse issues and populations, mostly adults, including couples and families. I know the impact of addictions and mental health on relationship. Many of my clients through the years were referred by Child Protective Services because adult issues impacted the children. I have seen couples and families work through major issues to make things right. I have always believed the concept, “Where there is enough reason why, the how will happen”. When there is a commitment to the relationship and all parties take personal responsibility, relationships can grow past the differences.
Counseling provides a supportive, safe, and non-judgmental opportunity for couples and families to identify the core issues, clarify the roles each has played and can play going forward, work toward acceptance, and design healthier relationship skills. Sometimes, however, they have to work on healing from separation because the damage has been too much, too long. Their issues may then revolve around the children and healthy co-parenting, mental and emotional adjustments, lifestyle transitions, financial circumstances, and redefining identities for each family member. In all cases, I strive to help my clients to determine what is right for them and their family.
