About me

Each partner in a couple has different experiences and observations of the relationship, and it is important to evaluate how each partner sees and experiences the relationship. It’s also important to understand each partner’s individual differences and sensitivities based upon their family of origin, past relationship histories, past life experiences and current and future life goals.

Oftentimes in relationships, we believe that we are communicating, when in fact, we are speaking at cross purposes, not hearing and not being heard. My focus in couples’ therapy is first to understand each couple’s sensitivities and differences, and then to understand their communication and attachment style. Once I’ve identified those factors, I try to help them bridge the gap between what they think they have in their relationship, what they report to me they want in their relationship, and what I actually observe in their relationship. I find the process of providing couples’ therapy and helping couples learn to truly listen and emotionally connect to one another is incredibly energizing and rewarding. I believe that even the most contentious couple can find satisfaction in their relationships.

Karen has been extremely helpful in all of our sessions. She provides resources and exercises for my spouse and I to use between sessions and she always replies to or questions and concerns quickly. She is understanding and nonjudgmental. It’s easy to be open and honest in sessions with her. She is knowledgeable and takes the time to understand our issues and gives helpful suggestions and advice that allow us to work towards resolving our issues. We plan to work with Karen for the foreseeable future. We would recommend her to anyone looking for couples or individual counseling.

Karen is a very good listener and does a great job of identifying with each of us in our feelings. She has us focus on our connection and helps us trust our intuitions and gives us strategies to ask for what we need from each other in the relationship.

Due to personal reasons, did not get to have much time with her. But the time we did have was great. She's very attentive and makes you feel heard and understood.
