K. Sasser

About Me

Initially reaching out can be one of the hardest steps in seeking help. Congratulations on simply taking a look at the therapeutic options available to you here at Regain.

If you didn’t already know, research shows that the most important aspect of counseling is the sense of alliance you feel with the person with whom you choose to share your personal struggles. So, let me tell you a little about myself.

As a person, I would describe myself as a bohemian Buddhist. I strive to embrace all life has to offer, with a special fondness for the unconventional. As a psychotherapist, I’m more of an offbeat librarian with heart. I strive to weave together various evidence-based practices (e.g., cognitive–behavioral, solution-focused, and mindfulness-based therapies) in an experiential way with deep compassion for all of us who are hurting and an awareness that science has barely begun to touch the mysteries of human existence.

As for the practicalities, I am a licensed professional counselor in Denver, Colorado. I earned my Master’s degree in counseling psychology from the University of Colorado, Denver and my Bachelor’s degree in anthropology from Vassar College. I have been practicing psychotherapy since 2002, working with individuals, couples, and families on a broad spectrum of issues. I continually seek out professional training and consultation, and recent trainings include Internal Family Systems Therapy (developed by Dr. Richard Schwartz), which forms the foundation of all of my current work. When it comes to couples work, I am also highly influenced by Drs. John Gottman and Sue Johnson. If you haven’t already checked out "The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work" and/or "Hold Me Tight," I encourage you to take a look!

Messaging is available 6 days per week; I check messages at least 2 times per day, with the exception of Saturdays (which I take off). Chat, phone, and video sessions are available 14 hours per week. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. Best wishes to you on your journey.

Still not sure how the relationship will go, but K has been so great and so easy to talk to. I was nervous going in, but it was so helpful to have K there for us to chat with.

K is a great listener and very understanding. She has created a safe space for me to have a voice.
