About me

Hello and welcome!

I am excited to start our journey together. I'll share a little about my educational background, my clinical experience, and then my hopes for our relationship.

I earned a B.S. in Psychology and Exercise & Sports Science and an M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. I also went on to earn a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from the University of Wyoming. My clinical work with relationship focused/ couples counseling includes community mental health, in-patient mental health, the college population, and working in diverse metropolitan and rural environments. I was able to work with couples and families of all walks of life and experiencing different life phases from pre-marital, relational maintenance, infidelity, substance-abuse, couples counseling, etc.

Regarding our relationship, I hope to assist you in starting the process of cultivating an authentic relationship. The essence of who I am as a counselor is centered on helping you gain freedom of and responsibility for relational choices. I do this by empowering members involved to become aware of themselves, individuals with whom they are in a relationship with, and the relational dynamics between the two. It is highly important for me to create an environment of genuineness, trust, humor, respect, and spontaneity. The counseling relationship can be an intimate and vulnerable space. My hope is to honor this by giving you the space to carve out your own existence within your relationship. I hope to collaboratively cultivate a relationship of exploration, intentionality, and action.

I look forward to getting to know you,
Dr. J
