About me

Hi - I'm glad you're here because it means you care about your relationship and where it is headed. I'm Julie Guido, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Pennsylvania. I received a Masters in Social Work from the University of Maryland at Baltimore. For 28 years I have been working with individuals, couples and families to improve people's lives. I do this using different therapies depending upon what the clients' needs are. With couples I like to use System's Theory with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. That means that I look at the whole picture of each person in the relationship. Using a genogram, I can work with each of you to assemble pieces of your lives that indicate family roles, behaviors, temperment, habits, and many other characteristics. Genetics also make you who you are as individuals. We look at the impact that this plays in your life currently (I.e. addictions, diseases).

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy comes in when I give simple assignments to help bridge gaps or better the communication - they consist of positive ways couples can interact with the goal being to grow closer as you learn more about each other's needs, hopes, expectations, fantasies and particular ways of approaching each. Conflict resolution is often a popular reason couples come in. Learning tricks to fair fighting and affirmation, validation and communicating needs are very important ways to let each other know you care. Those are things we also practice.

You will find that I place a high degree of importance on helping each of you feel safe, comfortable and able to talk freely and honestly. My office is a no judgement zone. I like to add humor whenever possible, but rest assured, it is the balance of working together and learning that you will grow and hopefully, it will be growth together instead of apart. I want you to see your full potential as individuals who choose to be a couple that bring out the best in each other.

With regard to availability, I check my messages at least two times per day and usually respond on the same day Monday-Friday. On weekends I check messages one or two times over the course of the two days. If I am unable, for some reason , to get back to you on the same day you will hear from me the following day for certain. In addition, I have a number of hours dedicated to video sessions and live chats for couples work. I look forward to working with you both. Thank you for the opportunity.

Great counselor. I appreciate that she took the time to get to know us as individuals and I feel that makes a huge difference and makes counseling even better. She is down to earth, funny and she tells it how it is.
