About me
Hello,
I'm Dr. John Millerman, licensed clinical psychologist in Texas, and I love doing couple's counseling!
I've been trained by some of the best practitioners and researchers in the field over my 40+ year career as a counselor. My methodology is somewhat different from the more traditional approaches. I use a combination of cognitive behavioral therapy and positive psychology. What I want to do is help couples remember what attracted them to each other and learn to continually appreciate that. I also want them to learn about each other's values and strengths and honor those traits in each . I want couples to learn to practice gratitude with each other. In the teaching of these skills, we usually learn what deeply-seated issues may lie within each partner and will then have the opportunity to address those to the degree that they manifest in the marriage.
I have delighted in seeing couples leave our sessions, hand-in-hand, with newfound love for each other.
My personal life experience includes marriage, fatherhood, divorce, remarriage (this one has lasted 43 years), step-fatherhood, grand-fatherhood, fisherman, water-skier, educator, adjunct professor, supervisor.
