About Me

Hello and Welcome! I ‘m so glad you reached out for help.
I am a licensed therapist with 14 years of experience working with various populations, and individuals to help them navigate many of life’s difficulties and problems.
For over 21-years I worked as a dental assistant caring for patients who suffered with physical pain and low self-esteem as a result of dental problems.
Feeling a deep desire to help people from a total-body, holistic perspective, I returned to college in 2007 in pursuit of a professional counseling degree.
In 2011, I received my Bachelor's Degree in Social Work. I spent my undergraduate internship working in acute Adult and Senior Behavior Health Units caring for individuals suffering with severe, persistent mental health illnesses.
In 2013, I graduated with my Master's Degree in Professional Counseling. I earned my professional counseling license after providing over 3000 hours of care in private practice to various populations with broad-ranging problems.
During my internship, I realized many of life’s ills were the result of relationship conflict. I was fortunate enough to have been mentored and trained by a psychologist who specialized in marriage and couples counseling.
I have provided marriage and couples counseling for many couples during my time as a licensed therapist. Even with the divorce rate well over 50% in the United States, many times, marriage and couples counseling are often the last attempt at restoring relationships.
It is my desire to work with couples facing relationship problems stemming from past hurts and wounds, communication break-downs, broken trust and infidelity, financial stress, and other issues and concerns couples may experience.
In addition to my formal master level education in counseling and mentorship in marriage and couples counseling, I received additional intensive training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Although, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is my primary treatment approach, I am fully trained and licensed in many treatment options. Much of relationship and couples counseling is based in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. However, choice of treatment is always based on each presenting couple and situation.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is based on the principle that thoughts influence feelings, feelings influence actions, and actions influence our results, or life circumstances. I believe helping people recognize and challenge faulty thoughts and beliefs, include conflict resolution and problem- solving skills, empowers them to manage their thoughts and feelings and leads to healthier choices for a healthier individuals and healthier relationships.
Your mental health and relationships are my priority, and I am looking forward to working with you. Thank you.

Joann is very helpful, professional and shows great abilities in her profession as a counselor. She is kind, understanding and allows me to think critically about my struggles. I am grateful for her and appreciate her compliments to me regarding my struggles and my openness. I would recommend her to any individual struggling with a variety of concerns as she has shown me the ability thus far to dig deep, listen, understand and HELP! For that, I am so thankful!
