About me

My name is Jane Meyers, and I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with my independent psychotherapy privilege from Upstate NY. Thank you for trusting me enough to share your personal thoughts and challenges. I am happy for you and your decision to make positive changes in your life. You can read more about my background, education experience, and counseling approach by clicking on my name on this page.

I have been working with couples and families, as well as individuals since I began related education and training while attending graduate school. Focused coursework, training and education in couples therapy has focused on Solution-Focused Brief Therapy and Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy. My goal in couples therapy is to help you define what it is you want to make your relationship better and then set a course to help. This typically takes the form of work outside of the therapy session, doing assignments and working to change patterns that are not working for, or are working against, your relationship.

I would like to get to know you better, but before we proceed, a little about how this works. This is our private chat room, where you can leave messages for me any time of the day or night; you can use this in any way you feel works best for you. Understand that we can all see all of the posts. There is no channel for private communication between myself and one of the partners. I highly recommend that you use this chat room to write to me as needed, as part of our work together (topics, work we are doing, etc...), to let me know how you are doing, or if you like, you may use it as an open journal that I can view and we can reflect on together. Understand, however, that I do not respond in real-time. I check in at different points throughout the day. I try to respond within 24 hours in most cases. However, I do take Saturday and Sunday off and Mondays I catch up on all messages in the feed. If you need me to be alerted to something, or would like to chat in real-time for an urgent issue, let me know in the first line of your message so I can see it as I scan through my dashboard.

Live sessions (sessions in real-time) are available from the beginning; just go to my schedule and put yourself in any slot that works for you. I toggle my own availability, so if the platform lets you schedule, I'm available. If we are in very different time zones, or your schedule is less than accommodating, just let me know- we'll figure out a time that works for both of us and I will open up a slot. No worries. Live sessions can take several forms- they can be messaging back and forth right here in this chat room, phone, or video. I strongly prefer using video for live sessions in couples therapy. Live sessions are coordinated through the platform and initiated by me. Contact information is kept private; there is no exchange of private numbers or contact information. No need. The idea behind the flexibility of this style of counseling is to accommodate all personal styles and scheduling needs. It is what I like best about this platform, and I hope you will enjoy it as well.

Initially I like to spend a little time getting to know each of you, your background, and what you would like to work on. It would help to learn more about your family growing up (family makeup, dynamics, relationships), any health issues, career and hobbies/ interests, social activities. Also, please walk me through the issues that bring you to therapy, how serious you believe it to be, and how long the issues have been going on. It will also help to walk me through a day in your life.

From there we can focus on setting small objectives to work on, which will aim toward tackling the larger picture in therapy. This doesn't mean you will have to follow a set plan that you are stuck with- objectives and goals are fluid, subject to change. We can always spend as much time talking as you need; not every interaction has to be about learning tools to use. If you have any questions about what to expect, please don't hesitate to ask at any time.

I look forward to getting to know you in the weeks to come. Welcome!

Jane is an absolutely brilliant couples therapist! Her advice is not super specific, but sometimes you just need to go back to the basics. She is a safe space to air your grievances. She does not take sides.

Jane is a wonderful therapist and has helped my wife and I greatly

Jane has been exceptional. She truly helps my partner and I better understand each other and makes us both work on ourselves as well as the relationship. she really listens and tries to get to the root of why we feel a certain way and then teaches us to look at things through different perspectives so that we may better listen and offer support to each other. She always checks in on each of our individual mental health statuses before starting the couples session.
She checks in during the week as well and always makes time for a second weekly session if we need it. We both feel very grateful to have found her.

Jane is everything we could’ve hoped for in a therapist and more. We value her so much and she has been incredible for our relationship and us each individually as well. Could not speak more highly of her.

Thus far, the sessions we have had have been very good. I feel like she cares, listens and does her best to make helpful suggestions tailored to our needs. I would say she is very attentive to messages, I do not expect an instant response especially outside of normal business hours, but she still answers quickly.

Jane listens to my partner and I in a caring yet neutral way, and offers support, advice and exercises that help us build a better and stronger relationship. We look forward to our sessions and know we will end our calls with a positive and hopeful feeling

Jane is really a special and thoughtful person. As a black man, I’ve avoided therapy my whole life and couldn’t have found a better person to work with. Jane has been working with my wife and I for several months, and every session feels helpful. Jane listens, is smart in her responses, asks the questions that lead to understanding. I regret not having done this sooner.

Jane is a good person and a good counselor. She was able to listen to my partner and I and understand what are challenges are, make suggestions and analyze it all in a way that is suitable for us to understand. She made a difference and facilitated our efforts in a finding the right tools to tackle our issues. If we ever need help again we’d reach out to her again. Overall really good!
