About Me

Greetings and Welcome!

A bit about me: I am a licensed professional counselor in Missouri, as well as a certified school psychologist. I’ve worked with people of all ages and walks of life, including couples, over the course of a career that spans almost 25 years.

Personally, I am married twenty years with two children. I enjoy playing music, hiking, hanging out with my family, and running in my free time.

As your couples’ counselor, I believe that my primary responsibility is to help create a safe and objective “space” where you can work through the challenges and stressors that that all couples inevitably face. Whether it be difficulty communicating effectively, alcohol and other forms of addiction, sexual dysfunction, differences in parenting styles, financial problems, value differences, or simply a loss of “connectedness” as a couple, the various forces that can erode and toxify our precious and fragile relationships are plentiful.

The good news is that by partnering to address even one of smaller challenges that afflicts your relationship, healing can begin to occur within the system as a whole. You see, in most cases, my philosophy on couples counseling is rooted in a "systems" perspective. Simply put, it means that every acting element in a relationship has a positive, negative, or neutral ripple effect on all other aspects of the relational ecosystem. By building on strengths that already exist while also addressing some of the challenges present , the overall relationship can recover equilibrium and be made whole again.

The first step is always the hardest – but much easier when taken together!

I look forward to our time together :)
-James
