Like personal growth, relationships take time, effort and intention. Interpersonal effectiveness skills is a module in dialectical behavioral therapy, a therapy I have received intensive training in and am in the process of becoming certified. Effective communication and skillful behaviors are essential in generating and maintaining healthy relationships and in getting your wants and needs met in those relationships.
Conflicted relationships are often the result of poor communication, worried thoughts, an inability to effectively regulate and express your emotions and a lack of skill in getting what you want and need from the other person. Together we can uncover what cognitions and behaviors may be impairing your ability to achieve your relationship goals and replace them with skillful cognitions and behaviors.
My role as a therapist is one of support, nonjudgment and positive regard. I strive to create a therapeutic atmosphere that makes you feel comfortable, secure and empowered. My therapeutic approach is a combination of person-centered and CBT/DBT. Through a synergistic balance of acceptance and change I am confident that we can work together to achieve your relationship goals.
My husband and I live in the country in Michigan. We have three boys ages 6-16 and we enjoy anything outdoors. Skiing, running, golfing and bonfires are some of the things you will find us doing when we are not working or at school.
