About Me

Welcome. Thank you for visiting this profile description in your search for a mental health clinician. It is not easy filtering through the many skilled and well-equipped providers. My hope is this description helps to clearly provide an overview of my therapeutic approach and personality traits to aid you with this step in your journey.

In my work with couples, I try to understand the needs each member has, the impact of their individual experience, the pattern of a relationship and any special issues that may impair the connection. I will certainly look at strengths as well. I do support behavioral strategies and encourage concrete steps clients can take toward improved communication and trust, reduced conflict, and intimacy. Parenting approaches, and using a structural model, are utilized when needed. I do try to utilize a family systems perspective in work I do and in helping build effective family relationships among clients with different needs and across the life span.

I am a Georgia Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). I earned my Masters Degree in Social Work (MSW) from Clark Atlanta University. Additionally, I earned a Masters Degree in Psychology and Master's Degree in Sociology from Valdosta State College in Georgia. I have experienced working with a wide range of diverse population groups (whose socioeconomic status ranges from low to upper-middle). I am an eclectic therapist, pulling psychodynamic approaches and interventions from cognitive behavioral therapy, and solution focus. Meaning, I support you with identifying the root misunderstandings in a nonjudgmental and confidential space.

Personally, I found open and clear communication is best. I have a no-secrets policy when working with couples. When working with family systems, I tend to pull from structural family therapy to reinforce the family hierarchy.

In the past my husband and I have had therapists that just sit and listen without offering any substantial guidance. Andy always tells us what he thinks and offers different perspectives to our issues. He also jumps in and corrects us if we are making too many assumptions about the other. He's very friendly and a great listener to both sides of our issues.
