Reaching out in a time of uncertainty and distress is difficult to do and you are valued and appreciated for using your inner strength to take that first step. As humans, we struggle with being vulnerable and opening up to others, however it is empowering when you allow yourself to work through it with a supportive, professional.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 5 years experience working with individuals and couples experiencing grief, depression, anxiety, trauma related symptoms, relational conflicts, career and parenting challenges as well as domestic abuse. I also have experience in medical social work, inpatient psychiatric services and intensive care hospital units. I have worked with many families and couples that have difficulty communicating with each other, being a mediator and allowing for each person to be heard as they intended. Many times people hear what they think someone is saying, and they are not truly hearing what the person is actually saying.
My approach to counseling is to meet the person where they are at in the moment with respect, compassion, empathy, and non judgmental method of conversation to assist in finding insight into real time issues that are causing distress. My style includes a person-centered focus, systems based theory with a look at psycho-social stages of development, Solution Focus utilizing skills and tools from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy methods. Therapy is not a one size fits all, so I prefer to draw from several theoretical models as each individual has different needs and personalities.
Difficult conversations can be anxiety provoking and stressful however, when you allow yourself to be open and vulnerable it can break the barriers to reactive communication and create a new way of engaging with your loved ones, friends, or co-workers.
