We are all humans who make mistakes. We are doing our best to be vulnerable enough to be loved.
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with a Master's in Counselor Education and PhD (abd) in Counseling and Supervision from Syracuse University with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy.
The key to healing in relationships is communication. There’s a reason that’s cliché. As a couples counselor my goal is not to determine whether people should remain in the relationship. Only each partner can decide to stay or go. My role is to create a safe, non-judgmental environment for each person to be honest with themselves and each other, and to be genuine and frank about communication and behavior that is not conducive to a healthy relationship. I enjoy working with any combination of people in a committed relationship. I am a cis-gendered female in a heterosexual relationship with experience helping couples with various gender identities and definitions of commitment.
It is common for sensitive subjects to arise in couples counseling such as sexual preferences, sexual difficulties, extramarital affairs, pregnancy loss and value differences. I can promise confidentiality, compassion and comfort discussing any challenging topic.

Gina is a great help to my wife and I. She seems to really care about us, understands our issues and has specific, practical suggestions for us to try. I unreservedly recommend her for any couple needing counseling help.
Gena Nelson is compassionate toward both of us. She listens well and doesn't take sides. She encourages us and guides us to communicate more effectively. I have already recommended her to two friends.
